My Guide to Austin

Austin has a bold, sun-baked confidence that’s hard to miss. The city leans into color and texture through artful spaces, layered interiors, and design moments that reveal themselves as you wander. It feels expressive and a little rebellious, creative without trying too hard.

Austin feels built by people who care deeply about what they make. Design, food, and music aren’t treated as moments here, but as part of everyday life, shaped by local hands and strong point of view. There’s an independence to the city that comes through in its spaces and neighborhoods, where originality is valued over polish and personality always wins.

SHOP

ByGeorge

A longtime Austin staple with an elevated, fashion-forward curation. Beautiful space, strong designer mix, and a great balance of cool and wearable.

Westside Market

A small pocket of shops on the west side of Austin where interiors, fashion, and vintage blend effortlessly. This area feels very Austin: relaxed, aesthetic, and effortlessly cool. Wander without a plan and let the diverse vendors pull you in.

Prototype Vintage

Exceptional vintage with a fashion eye. Sculptural denim, leather, and statement pieces that feel intentional, not costume-y.

Sunroom

A bright, modern boutique with a clean, effortless aesthetic. Easy, elevated pieces that feel fresh and wearable with a strong sense of personal style.

Wildflower Organics

A beautifully curated home and lifestyle shop with a large selection of bedding, tea towels, and linens from Libeco, along with kitchen accessories and sweet baby gifts. Thoughtful, timeless, and design-driven.

EAT

Elizabeth Street Café

A must visit. Vietnamese and French influences layered into a space that feels fresh, relaxed, and beautifully done. Perfect for breakfast, lunch, or an afternoon pause.

Franklin Barbecue

If you love barbecue and have the patience to wait, do not miss this. The brisket is hands down the best. We were incredibly lucky to have Franklin catered for our rehearsal dinner on a river boat on Lake Austin in 2012, so needless to say I am a fan for life.

Perla’s Seafood and Oyster Bar

A classic Austin favorite for seafood, oysters, and martinis. Sit outside if you can and let the meal unfold.

Uchiba

Uchi’s sister restaurant and just as impressive. We attended a private dinner catered by them over the holidays and it was incredible. Refined, creative, and beautifully executed.

Josephine House

Charming and cozy with a residential feel. Great for brunch, lunch, or dinner when you want something comforting yet elevated.

VISIT

Stay: Austin Proper Hotel

A Kelly Wearstler designed property filled with bold color, texture, and personality. The interiors are just as memorable as the city outside, all anchored in a perfectly central location. And don’t forget to book a spa treatment, hands down one of the best massages I’ve ever had!

Lake Austin Spa Resort

An incredible destination spa set right on the water. Hands down the best facial I have ever had and well worth carving out the time.

Mount Bonnell

A short, easy hike with one of the best views in the city. Ideal for sunrise or golden hour overlooking the Colorado River.

Golden Hour at Lady Bird Lake

Walk, bike, or simply sit and take it in. The light here does something special as the day winds down.
