My Guide to Santa Barbara

The California coastline doesn’t get much dreamier than Montecito and Santa Barbara. With sun-drenched Spanish architecture, ocean breezes, and bougainvillea climbing across red-tiled roofs, it’s the kind of place that instantly slows your pulse.

Life here unfolds at an easy pace with morning walks to the beach, afternoons spent wandering open-air shops, and golden-hour dinners under palm trees. Whether you’re here for a weekend escape or a family getaway, this stretch of the coast is pure California charm at its most effortless.

SHOP

The Post, Montecito

A chic new outdoor shopping destination lined with red brick walkways and Dutch doors. Don’t miss Teller and my absolute favorite, Marisa Mason, for a highly curated selection of the most unique jewelry.

Jake & Jones

A small but mighty boutique bursting with personality. Think Pleats Please Issey Miyake, B Sides, and Shaina Mote, alongside beautifully made leather shoes from Portugal, beaded jewelry, and edgy hair accessories for the whole family.

William Laman

A charming antique and garden shop that feels like a treasure hunt through California history.

EAT

Honor Bar

The perfect lunch spot with excellent cocktails and a lively yet relaxed atmosphere.

Bar Lou

Cozy, intimate, and ideal for dinner. The lighting, wine, and warmth make it a go-to for date night.

Loquita

For Spanish-style dining, order the paella and explore their extensive gin menu. Don’t miss El Bulli’s iconic spherified olive, it’s a must try! My daughter and I always cheers our olives here.

Handlebar Coffee

The best espresso pick-me-up in town. Grab a kitchen sink cookie, you won’t regret it.

VISIT

Stay: The Ritz-Carlton Bacara

Beachfront perfection. Dip your toes in the ocean, let your dog run along the sand, and spend the afternoon by the pool. The property’s tennis and golf are a bonus.

Spa at San Ysidro Ranch

Pure heaven. Tucked into lush gardens, it’s a tranquil escape that feels worlds away.

Santa Barbara Courthouse

A breathtaking example of Spanish architecture with manicured gardens and sweeping views. I’ve driven by countless times but always forget how stunning it is, our family has celebrated engagements and weddings here, and it’s truly special.

Have photos taken with Rebecca Farmer

My favorite family photographer. She makes every shoot effortless and joyful, somehow keeping kids (and Kurt) laughing the whole time with her famous “kazoo voice.” Her ability to capture genuine, natural moments is unmatched.
